Where to stay in Manchester

Where to stay in Manchester

285 air-conditioned rooms including six suits and a split level penthouse with panoramic view. Each of the 285 guestrooms equipped with an iMac and each iMac functions as a TV, DVD, and CD player. Extensive free DVD and CD libraries at the desk service desk. Twelve meeting and events rooms, the Piccadilly Lounge bar and the intimate Blue bar, the al fresco terrace, the Sky Lounge private dining area and the City Café restaurant.
If you are looking for a new, stylish and modern hotel in the centre of town, City Inn is the one.
Situated just opposite Piccadilly mainline train station, City Inn is ideally located, with connections to the airport and at a stone’s throw from the prime shopping area, Manchester Central (formerly G-MEX and MICC), Canal Street, Bridgewater Hall and the Central Business District.

I visited during the cutting of the ribbon, on the last 31st May. General Manager David Toulson-Burke introduced me to a different world. Spacious and bright, City Inn is accurately furnished and designed especially for business people.

“We’ve studied every single detail, from the comfort of the rooms to the quality of the catering facilities”. Renowned international chef David Gale – formerly responsible for the exclusive Moët bar and Gallery restaurant at Selfridges - will be running City Café restaurant as well as coordinating the food offering in the Piccadilly Lounge. According to GM Toulson-Burke, “City Café is a restaurant inside a hotel, not a hotel with a restaurant inside”.

High quality food is vital for a high quality hotel and, with four eating venues, City Inn is going to be at the top of the First Class Hotels and the Top Restaurants lists in Manchester.

Ramada Salford Quays

Ramada Salford Quays

Ramada Manchester Salford Quays, a brand new, purpose-built, contemporary four star, 142 room hotel has opened on Trafford Road, Manchester. Located in the heart of the emerging Salford Quays development, the hotel has been designed with both the business and leisure traveller in mind. Just fifteen minutes from the city centre by tram and with easy access to the M60/ M62, the hotel is situated within easy reach of some of Manchester’s main leisure, business and sporting attractions – The Lowry Theatre, Imperial War Museum, Lancashire Cricket Club and Old Trafford and Media City are all close by.

Tastefully furnished, the 142 en-suite rooms are stylish, comfortable and well appointed. Wall-mounted Philips LCD plasma screens with 27 channels including Sky Sports, free Wi-Fi internet access, large double or twin beds, some of the best pillows in the business, work spaces and two-seater leather sofas (or comfortable armchairs in twin rooms) feature in every room. As expected, bathrooms are modern and roomy, comprising Raindance showers, large tubs and luxury Gilchrist & Soames bath products. Decorated in muted tones the rooms are spacious and many offer views across the quay and beyond. Sixteen interconnecting rooms are available for groups, families or those simply requiring adjoining rooms and disabled rooms are available on each floor.

On the ground floor, a new addition to Manchester’s restaurant scene adds to the stylish ambiance – Stresa, the hotel’s Italian, 100 cover restaurant and bar will become the perfect ‘local’ for both guests and non-residents from the Quays development. The á la carte menu is divided into six main sections – starters, pasta & risotto, pizza, salads, mains and deserts, with a strong emphasis on pasta dishes and pizzas; where possible local Lancashire suppliers are used. Plenty of outside seating (40 covers) is available for those brave enough to enjoy Manchester’s temperate climate.

The reception area is low-key at Ramada Salford Quays, with the bar and dining room taking prominence on the ground floor. However, service is key- the hotel offers 24hr reception and room service.

Five conference and meeting rooms are located on the first floor, all with natural daylight, they can accommodate up to 150 guests. All named after the city’s world famous music heritage: Songbird, Supernova, Wonderwall, Cinnamon and Factory have flexible layouts offering theatre, boardroom, classroom seating plans. All are kitted out with the latest technology – LCD projectors, plasma screens and complimentary Wi-Fi.

Competitive room rates start from £109.00 midweek and £79.00 at weekends on a room-only basis.
