Altrincham Market has been retailing since 1290 offering a special quality of service. The location and size of the market has changed several times over the years and it is incredible to think that the original would have been held in the middle of a settlement of wattle and daub cottages. Activities then would have included bear baiting, cock fighting and public floggings.
Today you can find inexpensive, specialized and top quality products, following on the middle ages tradition of produce bought and sold on the market such as local farm products.
Most of the market is under cover with parking nearby and many small shops and hot food outlets surrounding the market place offer sustenance for shoppers.
The thriving market boasts over one hundred and eighty stalls and has a reputation for specialist food products, particularly fish and cheeses, clothing, plants and flowers, household and other goods.
As Altrincham is a traditional market it caters for everyday shopping needs with fresh fruit, vegetables, meat, fish, game, dairy produce, confectionary and health foods. To complement the food stalls there are also stalls selling cut flowers, plants, garden ornaments, cards and gift wrap, furnishings and household goods. Stalls selling fashion clothing, underwear and footwear, luggage, jewellery, books and gift ideas also add to the versatility of the market.
The Market is conveniently situated in the heart of Altrincham close to the George Street shopping area. It is a short walk from the Metrolink/Bus interchange and Taxi Rank. There is also plenty of parking, a regular train service and easy access from the M56, M6, M62 and M60 motorways.
The Market can also offer Disabled Access, Designated Disabled Parking and a Shopmobility Centre at the Regent Road Car Park.
On Thursdays the Market boasts an Antique and Bric-a-Brac Market where the general public and experts browse through the myriad of stalls.
There is a Farmersâ market on the first Friday of every month.
The main Market days are Tuesdays and Saturdays, with a Half market on Fridays, when visitors can expect to find a profusion of packed stalls laden with goods to tempt every taste and pocket.
On Sundays there are Car Boot and Table Top Sales.
